New Hospital Planning: Stage 1.3 Functional Program Part B Underway
Stage 1.3 Functional Program Part B Kick-Off Event
Planning for the new hospital continues as BCHS has officially kicked off Stage 1.3 Functional Program – Part B. This work focuses on shaping the new hospital’s overall layout to ensure all required spaces are accounted for, meet standards and regulations, and align with long-term operating budgets.
We now launch into several months of collaborative work with hospital user groups to confirm design priorities, space needs, and preliminary furniture and equipment requirements.
This milestone signals important progress as planning moves forward and work continues to take shape for the future of BCHS.

Call for Land Issued for New Brantford-Brant Hospital Site
Call for Land Open until February 10, 2026!
Planning for a new, modern hospital in Brantford-Brant reached an pivotal milestone in December 2025 when a Public Call for Land was issued as part of the site identification process.
Led by the independent Site Identification Task Force, this process invites all interested landowners to submit their sites for consideration as BCHS works to identify a site capable of supporting a modern, patient-centred hospital that meets the communities needs for decades to come.
Submitted properties will be reviewed using established evaluation criteria, including accessibility, size, infrastructure readiness, and long-term growth potential.
Once the review process is complete, recommendations will be brought forward to the BCHS Board of Directors in Spring 2026.
Landowners interested in submitting a site can review the Call for Land documents and submission requirements through the BCHS portal on Biddingo.

Inside BCHS: Call for Land Now Open for new Hospital in Brantford-Brant
The Brant Community Healthcare System’s (BCHS) New Hospital Project represents an unprecedented investment in the health and well being of Brantford Brant and surrounding communities. The decisions made now about where to put the new hospital will shape the foundation of local healthcare in our communities for decades to come.
“This is a generational moment for healthcare in Brantford-Brant, and we are very hopeful and excited for the future of healthcare in our region,” says Don Shilton, Chair of the independent Site Identification Task Force.

Site Identification Process for New Hospital
To find the most suitable new hospital location, the BCHS Board of Directors has empowered an independent Task Force to lead the site identification process. The site identification process includes several key steps:
- Consultation with those who live and work in Brantford-Brant and beyond, First Nations and local Indigenous communities, and subject matter experts to develop the evaluation criteria for land proposals,
- A public call for land proposals,
- An evaluation of all submitted land proposals with the support of experts, and
- A recommendation from the Task Force to the BCHS Board of Directors for their decision.

New Hospital Project Update and Roadmap
BCHS is currently in Stage 1.3 Functional Program, but what does this mean?
In the Proposal Development and the Functional Program (Stages 1.2 and 1.3), BCHS will detail everything that is required in the hospitals for the next 25 years, from a programming and architectural perspective.
The Functional Program (FP) is a detailed planning document that describes future services, activity volumes, staffing levels, new technologies, and space requirements. The final document provides details on every room in the new hospital, including what each room will be used for and where it will need to be located to provide the best possible experience for patients and staff.
Please see to the right a New Hospital Planning Roadmap that outlines where BCHS is currently positioned within the Ministry of Health – Capital Development Planning and Approval Process.

Engage with us and stay connected!
A new hospital project is a huge initiative and a lengthy process for both the hospital and community. Through thousands of responses to our online survey, many focus groups and interviews, and direct feedback and comments received, the community has already played an important role in shaping the full range of evaluation criteria for the new hospital site.
We encourage the community to stay informed as planning progresses.
Information about the site identification process and community engagement opportunities, along with project updates and milestones are available on the Reimagine BCHS website.

“This project is transforming our emergency care.”
“Since the Andersen Ambulatory Assessment Area – Zone 7 opened last August, we’ve seen a remarkable shift in our daily operations.
The new space has allowed us to see patients more efficiently while offering a level of enhanced privacy we didn’t have before. It has been great to see how the dedicated areas for children help families feel more at ease during their visit.
Our focus now is on the next phase, which involves modernizing the main waiting room, triage, and registration areas. We want the arrival experience at the ED to be as organized and welcoming as possible for everyone.”

BCHS Foundation: ED Project Fundraising Success!

The $8 million required to cover the local share of the Emergency Department Renovation Improvement Project, including 10% of construction costs and the purchase of new equipment and furnishings, has been successfully raised by the BCHS Foundation. Without the support of generous community donors, this project would not be possible.
The BCHS Foundation continues to raise much needed funds to support new patient equipment and technology for the Medical Imaging and Diagnostics department at BCHS. This department includes critical services such as digital mammography, ultrasound, MRI and nuclear medicine (Gamma Camera) and completes over 290,000 procedures a year.
