Brantford, ON – The Task Force leading the work to identify potential sites for Brant Community Healthcare System’s (BCHS) new hospital has begun a process to collect input from the community on finding an ideal site. This public consultation will gather community input on the criteria that will be used to evaluate land proposals brought forward in an upcoming call for land process.
Those who live, work, and spend time in Brantford-Brant, Six Nations of the Grand River, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and surrounding areas are invited to complete an online survey to share their perspectives on what’s important for the Task Force to consider when determining where a new hospital should be located.
The survey can be accessed online here and will be open until October 3. It is available in English and French and will take about 10-15 minutes to complete.
“This is an important moment for our community,” said Don Shilton, Chair of the site identification Task Force. “The decision on where to locate a new hospital will shape health care in this region for many years. We want to hear from as many people as possible about what factors matter most when determining the best site. Every voice will help inform this process and strengthen the fairness and transparency of our work.”
There are a number of factors that go in to finding an appropriate site. The Task Force will use input from the public, TeamBCHS, First Nations and local Indigenous communities, and subject matter experts, as well as guidance from the Ministry of Health to determine the criteria used to evaluate sites brought forward.
Once criteria are finalized, the Task Force will issue a public call for land later this fall. Each submission will be evaluated using the same set of criteria, with a recommendation expected by spring 2026.
