Brant Community Healthcare System has reached an important milestone in the site identification process for a new hospital serving Brantford-Brant and surrounding communities.
The independent Site Identification Task Force has completed its evaluation work and provided a recommended ranked list of potential hospital sites to the BCHS Board of Directors. The BCHS Board has accepted the Task Force’s recommendation and authorized BCHS to move into the next phase of work to secure a site for the future hospital.
This next phase will include commercial negotiations, due diligence and related planning. Because this work involves negotiations involving commercially sensitive information, BCHS cannot share details about specific properties, locations or negotiations until an agreement is reached.
“The Task Force was made up of a skilled and dedicated group of individuals who approached this responsibility with great care and attention to detail,” said Don Shilton, Chair of the Site Identification Task Force. “Our process was guided by community input and supported by expert advice as the team worked toward identifying an ideal site to meet the long-term health care needs of Brantford and Brant County. We are pleased to have brought forward a ranked list of potential hospital sites to the Board.”
The Site Identification Task Force evaluated sites submitted through the public Call for Land process using the finalized land evaluation criteria developed with input from community members, TeamBCHS, system partners, technical experts, and First Nations and local Indigenous communities. Each site was reviewed through the same process to support a fair, consistent and responsible recommendation.
“Accepting the Task Force’s recommended ranked list is an important step forward for BCHS and for the communities we serve,” said David Diegel, Chair of the BCHS Board of Directors. “There is still important work ahead, and it’s exciting that we’re moving closer to a future healthcare system that is designed to meet the evolving needs of our growing community. On behalf of the BCHS Board of Directors I want to thank Don Shilton and the Site Identification Task Force for their hard work and leadership in this process.”
The need for a new hospital remains clear. The community continues to grow, and BCHS’ existing infrastructure is aging and increasingly challenged to support modern models of care. The future hospital project is focused on strengthening local capacity, improving the patient and staff experience, and ensuring services can meet the region’s needs for generations to come.
BCHS remains committed to a fair, responsible, and transparent process. Once negotiations are complete, we will share further information as soon as we are in a position to do so. We appreciate the community’s patience as we move through the next steps and thank you for your ongoing support of healthcare in our community.
